The world famous Dominican Republic Jazz Festival commences this coming Friday, November 2nd in Santiago's Cibao Grand Regional Theater. Opening the festival will be the legendary Cuban group, Irakere, headed by Grammy winner Chucho Valdes and also Dominican Republic's El Prodigio on the accordian and accompanied by more Dominican jazz musicians. This is now the 8th year for the Jazz Festival and it is a firm favourite on the Jazz Map for many followers from around the world as top name artists have for many a year, come down to the Caribbean to perform at this now famous festival.On Saturday the Jazz Festival continues at Cabarete with a performance by the Jazz Group, Ambar, Puerto Rico's Eddie Gomez Trio and from the United States, Stefan Carlson. From Brazil, Dudu De Fonseca and closing the concert will be American Michelle Marie.
Sunday will see the Dominican jazz band Maniel opening up, followed by the Jerry Medina Quartet with Efrain Toro, Eric Figueroa, Ramon Vazquez and Cuban Richie Flores as guest star and topping off with a bass jam session from John Benitez.
The event is being organised by Cabarete Events and the Sosua and Cabarete Hotels and Restaurants Association.
