The Environment and Natural Resources Ministry (Semarena) has discredited reports that the Dominican Republic has placed a tender to export sand to Miami.

Various reports have stated that beaches in Miami are suffering from severe erosion and that tenders to sell sand had been received from the Dominican Republic, Mexico and the Turks and Caicos Islands.

According to Semarena, while it is unknown if the Dominican Republic has sufficient sand to export, it would be against Law 64-00 to do so. This law deals with everything concerning beach management including sand extraction. It would require a Presidential decree to authorize such an initiative.
