A donation in the amount of US$600,000 is being made by the United States Agency for International Development to the Interior and Police Ministry of the Dominican Republic for the development of a 911 emergency response system. The funds will be made available once U.S. Ambassador Hans Hertell and Interior and Police Minister Franklin Almeyda sign an agreement to this effect.

The project, covering the entire Dominican Republic, will furnish law enforcement and public safety agencies with the tools to provide fast and effective response to emergencies and natural disasters. It will encompass all agencies that provide security to the population such as police, firemen, hospitals and more and aid in enhancing national security as well.
