Alongside the Dominican Republic the Mexican Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Mexico condemned the violent acts and deplored the loss of human lives, adding that it rejects terrorist acts in all forms. Mexico also expressed condolences to the families of all those killed in the attack.
The President of Chile, Michelle Bachelet expressed her strong condemnation of the assassination. She said “as a President I reject any act of this nature, where political violence reaches the level of killing an opposition leader and a group of people.”
Argentinean President Cristina Fernandez said that her government offered its sincerest condolences to the families of Benazir Bhutto and also to the families of the victims.
President of Brazil Mr. Luiz Inacio da Silva sent a letter to Pakistani counterpart Pervez Musharraf, saying he heard of the terrorist attack with “great sadness and indignation.”
The Foreign Ministry from Venezuela said that it rejects and condemns the “blind act of violence” that killed Bhutto and other innocent men and women.
The President of Peru Alan Garcia ordered the nation’s flag to be flown at half mast and condemned the assassination as “a repulsive murder.”
The spokeswoman for Nicaragua, Rosario Murillo expressed her country’s condemnation of the murder.
The Panamanian government said it was saddened by the fact that violence had shortened the life of a selfless fighter for democracy.
Bhutto was sworn in as Prime Minister for Pakistan in December 1988 and became the first woman to head the country, her reign as Prime Minister was dismissed in 1990 amid allegations of corruption. Her father who was also a Prime Minister was hanged by the military in 1979. Re-elected again in 1993 she was thrown out again and then went into exile for eight years in 1999. She returned to Pakistan in October of this year.
Today Benazir Bhutto was buried next to her father with tens of thousands of people turning up to see their “queen” and former prime minister’s final journey. People made their way to the simple funeral any way they could, and surprisingly the funeral had no measures of security, just men clutching bamboo sticks. There was no one from the government in attendance, not a Pakistani flag was seen only hundreds of flags flying from her political party.
Her husband and son jostled with crowds of wailing men and women to throw rose petals at the shrine where Bhutto’s body was laid to rest next to her father. A prayer was said outside the shrine as her body was placed in through a hole.


Latin American countries yesterday condemned the assassination of Pakistan’s opposition leader and it’s former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. The Dominican Republics Foreign Minister Carlos Morales Troncoso expressed on behalf the countries “deep pain” in hearing about the murder of Bhutto and also its dismay over the “barbarous acts”. Benazir Bhutto age 54 was killed on Thursday evening in a suicide bomb attack at the Liaquat Bagh Park in Rawalpindi, during her election rally. At least 20 other people were killed in the attack.
