A team of Dominican mountaineers know collectively as "The Excelsior Group" are in the final stages of their preparation and training to scale Mount Everest. Federico Jovine, Ivan Gomez and Karim Mella have already conquered some of the world's most challenging mountains such as Kilimanjaro in Africa and Aconcagua which is in Argentina and the highest peak in the Americas. At the moment the team which also includes Rubén Torres and Luis Manuel González are currently in Namche Bazaar
which is 3,440 meters above sea level and an important part of the acclimatation process before their planned assent to the summit on May 10th 2011. At 8,850 meters, Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world and we would like to wish the Excelsior Group all the very best in this courageous endeavor to become the first Dominicans to conquer Everest.
