Construction Begins on New Dominican-Haitian Market

European Union Ambassador Dino Sinigalia and European Development Funds Coordinator Onofre Rojas presided over the groundbreaking ceremony marking the beginning of construction of a new bi-national market in the border province of Dajabón. The project is a collaboration between the Dominican government with matching funds from the European Union and is part of a €45 million (RD$2 billion) project that will include the reconstruction of the Customs offices, the Cape Haitien-Dajabón highway and the construction of a bridge over the Masacre River. The market portion of the initiative is expected to surpass RD$209 million to complete, will cover an area of 42,000 square meters and include a two floor buiding housing a post office, immigration agency and a branch of the Export and Investment Center. Dominican companies Inypsa and Industrial Acero are in charge of the construction.
