Coffee exports for the 2005-2006 season saw an increase of 197% over 2004-2005, generating US$20 million in revenue last year.
This was reported by Fausto Burgos, executive director of the Dominican Coffee Council (CODOCAFE), which represents approximately 50,000 coffee producers in the country.
Assistance from the French Development Agency in the amount of €17 million was used to enhance coffee growers technical knowledge and help them better position their product in the international markets.
