2008's Puerto Plata Merengue Festival will be sponsored by the famous rum house BRUGAL, with the festival taking place from 26 - 28 September in Puerto Plata on the north of the Dominican Republic. The whole festival is organised by the Ministry of Tourism and has an exciting line up of Merengue Bands this year including El Prodigio, Ruby Perez, Jose Pena Suazo, Bonny Cepeda, Wilfredo Vargas and La Kerubanda among other stars.
The once yearly event is produced by Amable Valenzuela and will be taking place at the historic "Puntilla" in Puerto Plata, just located at the famous Fortress of San Felipe. Wilfredo Vargas has the honor this year of closing the festival celebrating his 40 years in Merengue music!
