Brits are off to the polls May 6th

gordon-brownLondon - UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Conservative party leader David Cameron have launched their personal pitches for power after the Prime Minister went to Buckingham Palace to ask for a May 6 election date.

Mr Brown met his Cabinet before going to see the Queen at 10am, firing the starting gun for the most defining election campaign for a generation. David Cameron was the first of the two to make his first speech of the campaign where he promised the much needed change Britain needs and was very optimistic in a favorable result.

At 10am Gordon Brown left 10 Downing Street without chatting to reporters, but did show a wry smile as he left to meet the Queen to request the election. Nearly 30 minutes later, he was back at Downing Street but was unable to make his speech as David Cameron had already beaten him to it as he made his speech on Londons South Bank
