dncd-puerto-plataPuerto Plata -  A British resident on the North Coast tourist city of Puerto Plata has been arrested by the National Directorate for Drug Control (DNCD) with 185 marijuana plants he had cultivated in a remote rural community adjacent to the municipality of Los Hidalgos.

The foreigner was identified as Avil Freedman, 30, who lives in an un-numbered house in the Calle Primera, Cuesta Hermosa sector, and had the plants cultivated on the summit of the so called "Loma de la Bestia"

It is reported that Freedman was "surprised" when the DNCD visited the aforementioned Loma de la Bestia as he was adding fertilizer and watering the drug plants. He was taken into custody in Puerto Plata to be processed by the judicial system on Friday.

At this time it is not possible to determine whether the Britain has a permanent residence in the country, but the DNCD said contacts have been made with the Directorate of Immigration to find out the status of the foreigner, and that the British Embassy has also been informed.
