British flag the Union JackThe British Ambassador to the Dominican Republic and Haiti made a visit to Sosua on the north coast of the Dominican Republic last week for a meeting with British residents.  Ian Worthington OBE was very friendly and impressed with his direct yet friendly style. The meeting was held at Marua Mai Restaurant and was hosted by West Indies Estates.

The British Ambassador was gracious enough to publically acknowledge the sterling and often at times, excessive work carried out by the British Honorary Council for the north coast, Genni Mendez.

Mr Worthington informed his audience of the work done by the Embassy and his plans for a system of communication through out the Dominican Republic, particularly in those areas where there is no consular representation as well as the facilitation of ongoing links between the Embassy and British residents on the north coast.  He also advised that the only two official British Government representations in the Dominican Republic were the Embassy in Santo Domingo and the Consular office in Puerto Plata.
