Dominican Boxer Joan Guzman who defends a 30-0-1 record is attempting to box at junior welterweight for the first time against little known Jason Davis on the same card as Amir Khan tonight in Las Vegas. However, Guzman who has a reputation for struggling to make weight limits for his fights has again failed to make the 141Lbs limit clocking up 144Lbs on the scale.
Before the fight Guzman, nicknamed "The Dominican Dandy", reported a thyroid problem had affected his ability in making weights but insisted "I like this weight. I feel comfortable and won't have a problem making weight. Plus the division has a lot of good fighters".
In a bizarre twist of events, Guzman's opponent, Jason Davis also failed to meet the 141Lbs limit and both camps agreed to forget the contract issues - the fight, broadcast "live" on HBO will go ahead as planned!
