Santo Domingo - Amid a light show, with music and fanfare, the new Blue Mall shopping center was inaugurated Tuesday evening following an investment of US$98 million. The giant mall was opened by President Leonel Fernandez and his wife, first lady Margarita Cedeno and had the blessing of Cardinal Nicolas de Jesus Lopez Rodriguez.

The mall is located on Winston Churchill Avenue at the intersection with Gustavo Mejía Ricart street and is the most modern piece of architecture of its kind in the DR. President Leonel Fernandez, spoke about the importance of this investment and said the investor confidence displayed in the project development was a sign that the country is gradually moving forward.

The complex, which has an area of 28,358 square metres, divided into five levels of shops, five levels of underground parking and over a thousand parking stalls and once fully functional is expected to create more than 2,500 jobs.
