volcanic-eruptionA new volcanic ash threat grounded all flights in and out of Northern Ireland and the Irish Republic Tuesday and some smaller airports in Scotland. Services in Irish airspace were suspended at 0600GMT by aviation authorities after more ash drifted from the same volcano that caused havoc late last month across the whole of Europe.

The Natural Environment Research Council said it sent an aircraft, which is used jointly with the UK´s Met Office, to look at the ash cloud and was expected to be in the air for about 4 hours investigating the direction in which the cloud is moving and as to how dense it is.

Other UK airports are monitoring the cloud and are advising passnegers to check on line or call ahead before travelling to the airport, and at this time cannot rule out that further disruption will occur later on during the week.
