Sunday November 25th is the day everybody in the Dominican Republic remembers the Mirabal Sisters whose brave and tragic history has now been immortalised in a film called "In The Time of the Butterflies" enabling the rest of the modern world to share their history and horror during Dictator Trujillo's reign over the Dominican Republic.  The three Dominican sisters were assassinated by Trujillo's regime on the 25th November 1960. Eight years ago The United Nations created an International Day against Violence against Women for Latin America in honour of the three sisters and Sunday saw many female speakers out across the DR.  Read more on The Dominican Republic Mirabal Sisters.
