Santo Domingo may be getting a Metro but Santiago has decided to stay above ground and construct a street car system.
Technical feasability studies have determined that it is indeed feasable to build a street car system in the country's second largest city. It will be the first such system in the country and aims to improve transportation in a city that some 200,000 people enter daily.
While Spanish railway construction company FEVE is in charge of the project, the Dominican consulting firm Consulting APD will play a major role. The system is being financed through concession and foreign investment.
