Another GOLD medal for the Dominican Republic as local lad Lin Ju beat Argentinean number two seed Liu Song and showed just who was boss in Rio de Janeiro at the Pan Am Games. Lin Ju is the current top seed and kept his place as just that in the Men's Table Tennis Singles. A strong earthquake of magnitude 7.3 shook Haiti yesterday afternoon. Haiti, the poorest country in the Americas and the Northern Hemisphere, are waking up today to the aftermath and are able to veirfy the extent of the damage caused. A probe led by former Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell is requesting the medical records of dozens of Major League baseball players including Dominican slugger Sammy Sosa according to the New York Times. Coffee exports for the 2005-2006 season saw an increase of 197% over 2004-2005, generating US$20 million in revenue last year.This was reported by Fausto Burgos, executive director of the Dominican Coffee Council (CODOCAFE), which represents approximately 50,000 coffee producers in the country. Assistance from the French Development Agency in the amount of €17 million was used to enhance coffee growers technical knowledge and help them better position their product in the international markets.
