50 years since Castro & Hemingway met
Havana - Cuba. It has been half a century since two of the most iconic figures of our times met in the Cojimar fishing village, 5 miles from Havana and the village population will never forget this historic meeting that took place right at the height of the Cold War - It is the 50th anniversary of the first meeting of the Cuban Revolution leader Fidel Castro and the American writer Ernest Hemingway
The pair first met in a Marlin fishing tournament in May 1960 and the event will be remembered from May 12th to 15th at an exhibition called "Hemingway, Cojimar and its Fishermen". The Casa-Museo Hemingway (Hemingway´s house/museum) will be open for the exhibition with numerous papers and photos donated by the Cojimar´s residents with a special appearance by the skipper of the fishing boat Castro & Hemingway went out in, Julio Arocha.
The bar/restaurant "La Terraza" in Cojimar, was frequently visited by Hemingway, and is celebrating its 85th anniversary of its founding with a sample of some of Hemingways work.
