atlantis-32nd-and-last-landingCape Canaveral, Flordia - The US Space Shuttle Atlantis landed for the last time yesterday with six astronauts on board under a perfectly blue sky, ending its 32nd trip and final mission into orbit after 25 years of service. There are now only two more programmed shuttle flights left: Discovery in mid-September and the Endeavour in late November.

This was the final scheduled flight for Atlantis, which has logged more than 120 million miles during its 25 years of service. The orbiter will go through standard prelaunch preparations as the launch-on-need vehicle for Endeavour's STS-134 mission which is targeted for November.

Both Endeavour and Discovery have only one planned flight left each after which all 3 remaining shuttles will be sent to museums.

Officials from the U.S. space agency (NASA), however, not entirely excluded the possibility that Atlantis once again fly on a mission to help or whether the White House decides to add an additional trip to the International Space Station.
