2 new malaria cases cause concerns for authorities

malaria-carrying-mosquitoSANTO DOMINGO - Two new cases of malaria have been reported by the Robert Reid Cabral Hospital in the Dominican Capital, which has aroused concern from health authorities.

The information was revealed by Minister of Health and Welfare, Bautista Rojas Gomez. He reported that his office was concerned about the 2 cases and feared there could be more that have not been reported

The director of the Robert Reid Cabral Hospital reported that both cases are children of Haitian nationality, one a teenager and the other 7 years of age and are reported to be stable.

Malaria is a febrile illness that is spread from human to human by the bite of an infected anopheles mosquito. It causes chills, anemia and other symptoms.
