Cofresi E-mail
Essential Cofresi
Cofresi is just outside the town of Puerto Plata still heading west and set on a hillside affording those the spectacular view of the deep blue and green turquoise waters of the Atlantic. Approx 45 minutes from Gregorio International Airport. Cofresi earned it’s name after the infamous Puerto Rican pirate named Roberto Cofresi. The stunning resort of EMI Sun Village Hotel is located right at the entrance to Cofresi and the whole hotel cascades gently down the hillside to the sandy shoreline. A beautiful all inclusive resort the hotel offers a high standard of accommodation and facilities including 7 swimming pools to choose from. EMI Sun Village also rents private and luxurious villas in their own grounds with service staff available. (See The Real DR Hotel Directory for telephone numbers).

You will also find the Hacienda Resort comprising of five hotels offering great family holiday value. Hacienda Hotels also rent private and luxurious villas in their own grounds with service staff available too.

Cofresi is a small holiday paradise and just past the EMI Sun Village Hotel the magnificent beach is available to everybody. Opposite the beach front and running parallel to the road side are various shops, bars and restaurants. Worth a visit are Teddys Island BBQ to quote “he is the King of the Que!” a great atmospheric bar and restaurant right on the beach front serving delicious “ludicrous burgers” (his signature burger), juicy ribs, steaks and shrimp. Teddy is quite a character and a super enjoyable fun person to be around - give it a try for a memorable night out. Also the very well established Chris and Mady’s restaurant a little further along offering an extensive menu and a delicious to die for chocolate cake! Defiantly the place to go to watch any sporting event live on their cinema sized screen.

If you’re feeling a little more formal and want to ‘posh’ dine then cross over the road at the entrance to Cofresi and walk up the small hill to Papillon Restaurant. The hospitable owner Thomas has probably the best menu on the north coast with ever changing evening specials. Lobster, fish and steaks are his speciality and be sure to ask Johnny the waiter for a Papillon special coffee after dinner, you won’t remember much after that but Papillons is guaranteed to delight your tastebuds and offers an excellent and varied wine list too (always closed on a Monday).

However the most famous attraction of all has to be Ocean World. The marine park offers a once in a life time opportunity to swim with dolphins and or sea lions, feed sharks, stroke a sting ray, see the tigers, tropical bird sanctuary and many many wonderful and colourful fish. (See The Real DR Excursion Centre for more exciting details). Ocean World built into the dramatic natural coastline is a definate must for those vacationing on the north coast!
