|
|
A court in the capital of the Dominican Republic has commenced proceeding to sue the United States Computer Company Dell World Trade for RD$1116.5 million pesos or US$3.6 million dollars in indemnifications to the Dominican company Xolutiva S.A. The Dominican firm has sued Dell for RD300 million for violating its rights as the American Comapny's local representative in the DR. The Civil and Commercial Chamber then ruled against Dell for violating Law No 173 on International Representations. The ruling states that although Xolutiva S.A. represented Dell in the country since 1997, the American company dediced unilateraly not to renew the contract with out any due compensation. National Dominican Newspaper Listin Diario has reported that the sentence against Dell is in absentia as it was never represented in court, and though the Chamber of Commerce in Santo Domingo has on two previous different occassions invited Dell to reconciliate, Dell has refused in both cases. The Customs Agency has published a list and Dells earnings in the DR produced over US$15 million in taxes for the Dominican treasury.
