A massive dengue-prevention is to take place this coming weekend with over 200,000 people working together in operation to prevent and eradicate the deposits that produce the dreaded dengue mosquito hoping to include 3 million homes around the whole of the country. 

With dengue nearly reaching an all time high level in the Dominican Republic the Dominican Health Minister has met with health officials and health service professionals and companies to outline specific measures and actions needed to treat dengue patients. 

Although in other countries there are more cases recorded, there are also fewer deaths than reported in the Dominican Republic. He did mentions 2 public hospitals in Santo Domingo the nation’s capital and one in Santiago which have both been very successful in the handling of dengue cases. 

Rojas said that the authorities are looking at the problem from a different angle and in different sectors in the prevention effort with the support from 157 local City Councils joining in the massive operation this weekend. 

Through out the country local radio and TV channels are also providing free bulletins and information to support the prevention campaign. So far this year according to Rojas there have been 2,686 cases of reported dengue with 11 deaths. 

He has stressed the importance of reporting the cases of the disease to apply the pertinent measures which also includes fumigation of the area/zone/house.
