New rules have come from the Amet Chief Jose Sigredo Fernandez Fadul that each vehicle on the road in the Dominican Republic should now be carrying:- A reflector Triangle, a fire extinguisher and a first aid kit. If vehicles are stopped and are not carrying the above, drivers will have to pay a RD$1,500 fine.
Latest figures on the Metropolitan Transport Authority (AMET) for last month are as follows:-
32,000 drivers in total fined of these 10.506 were arrested for crossing on a red light.200 drivers are arrested each day for obstructing traffic and taking illegal left turns.
The Chief stated that drivers who ignore red lights will need to attend special training sessions. He also mentioned that businesses should be aware that they can no longer use the sidewalks and pavements outside their establishments for their own car parking areas, and that if businesses continue to do so then vehicles will be towed away.
