Funding for Flood Damage Authorized |

While flood warnings are still in place in many areas of the country, President Leonel Fernandez authorized more than RD$1 billion to deal with damage and losses caused by the recent heavy rains in most of the country. The flooding is being blamed for 10 deaths and the displacement of thousands of people from their homes. Damage to property, infrastructure and agriculture has been extensive.. The President has ordered the work necessary to recover the damaged areas and officials say that the situation is under control. The National Meteorology Office has said that rains will ease up over the next days but that showers could still be expected in some areas.
