Dajabon Recovery Efforts Making Progress E-mail

Things are getting back to normal in Dajabon after a tornado last Tuesday caused approximately RD$150 million in damage.

Electricity has been restored to more than 85% of the city after electrical distributor Edenorte and the State Electrical Companies (CDEEE) replaced over a hundred poles, thousands of feet of cable, transformers and other equipment damaged during the storm.

The National Potable Water Institute (INAPA) crews have been working hard to repair the tornado damaged system and have at this time restored 95% of the water supply. Telephone and other communication systems are also mostly restored in the area. Cleanup is continuing and contractors are repairing damaged homes as quickly as possible.

President Leonel Fernandez has promised to return to the region in three weeks to ensure that recovery efforts have been effective.
