Fuel Prices Blamed for New Inflation Figures |
|
|
Newly released inflation figures for April have shown that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) has increased by 0.81 percent over March bringing accumulated inflation in the first 4 months of the year to 2.87 percent. According to the Central Bank the increase is not due to monetary or fiscal policies but rather the rise in fuel prices. Of all the goods and services categories that make up the CPI, the transport sector contributed to 0.56 percent of the April inflation. Premium gasoline has increased 6.10 percent and regular 4.44 percent. Increased bus fares as a result of fuel prices contributed to a lesser extent.
