Dajabon Starts Recovery From Tornado E-mail

Tuesday's tornado in the Dajabon region caused approximately RD$150 million in losses to agriculture, services, homes and other damages.

Mayor Sonia Mateo estimated that 30% of homes had been destroyed, thousands of trees had come down and at least 38 people were injured. No injuries were life-threatening and no deaths have been reported.

The bridge that connects Dajabon with Ouanaminthe on the Haitian side of the border was seriously damaged and border crossing has been suspended.

Public services such as electricity and water have yet to be restored but Public Works, Civil Defense and other government agencies have been sent to the area to aid with clean up and restoration of services.

While in most cases this is being reported as a tornado some sources say their were no confirmed sightings of actual funnel clouds.
