The Fifth Centennial Race Track was forced to suspend horse races yesterday after the Dominican International Electronic Lottery, S.A. (LEIDSA) pulled the plug on its machine system that control the track's betting in light of a lawsuit between LEIDSA and the National Equestrian Commission.

President of the Commission, Nicolas Calderón said that LEIDSA's actions were intended to try to force the Government to lease the track to LEIDSA and that it will end up costing millions for the race track and government in losses.

For its part, LEIDSA is demanding the track's lease as stipulated in a contract signed 2 years ago. Calderón says that at no time has the Commission refused to recognize that LEIDSA, who has a seven year contract t manage the race track's betting, has a first option in the bidding process but accuses LEIDSA of wanting the lease assigned directly without bidding.
