The Dominican Annual Tourism Exchange 2007 (DATE) closed this year posting record numbers across the board. The fair, developed to promote the Dominican Republic to international tourism markets, had a record number of participants as well as confirmed deals. There were 1367 deals made between suppliers and buyers, up 87 over last year's fair. Buyers increased by 14 to 84 this year. In all DATE 2007 had 520 delegates of buyers and sellers with 150 international agencies and 283 hotel companies and tour operators taking part. Luis Lopez, president of the National Hotel and Restaurant Association (Asonahores) commented on how this increased popularity shows how fast the Dominican tourism industry is growing and that DATE's prestige and efficiency in promoting the country is what prompted so many in the tourism sector to participate this year. Participants came from the United States, Canada, Europe and Latin America.
