Okay, you can officially complain now. Not that you haven't been doing it anyway what with happy hour costing you about twice as much as it used to. At least 17 basic consumer products of mass consumption have risen an average of 89.3% since August 2004 with some rising as much as 200%. This in spite of the reduction in the dollar from RD$43 to RD$32.60 at present. Increases have been fueled by high oil prices and government tax reforms. Among the items hardest hit by inflation are milk, bottled water, beans, garlic, plantains, bread, beer, rum and fuel. Most recently the government authorized an increase in bus fares of RD$3 and RD$5 depending on route length.
