Carnival Season To Close In Santo Domingo's Seafront in Dominican Republic |
|
|
It has been a brightly brilliant carnival season once again in the Dominican Republic. This reporter has personally just returned from the epi-center of Dominican island carnival revellery that was held in La Vega, yesterday (Sunday). Please check out our "How to Survive Carnival and Live to Tell The Tale" story on the Real DR website, later on this week. To close the season, the most colourful troupes or in Spanish "comparsas" will be performing on the seafront malecon in Santo Domingo, this coming Sunday. Every region in the country has a special costume and masks and the most ornate, vibrant and original will be parading in all their splendour. The traditional national procession will start around 4.00pm in the afternoon. The Minister of Culture is organising this annual event and more than 150 troupes are expected from around the Dominican Republic. Avelino Stanley is the sub-minister for culture in the country and added that "the Dominican Republic is the only country on the American continent with a procession of this kind - showcasing local folklore from all over the country", he concluded saying "We must celebrate this with pride". If you can't get down to Santo Domingo on Sunday then the event will be broadcast live by Color Vision (check your regional cable setting for which channel number)with live commentary from Jochy Santos, Pamela Sued, Karina Larrauri and Milton Cordero (Lechuga!).
