Mango Madness is Here Again in the Dominican Republic |
“I can hear myself shrieking with joy when the mango season arrives” says mango name sake Mango Mamma on her blog in therealdr.com and for the rest of us too, we smack our lips in delight. Mango season comes twice a year in the Dominican Republic with this delicious fruit originating from India some 4,000 years ago. Amazingly scrumptious but messy to eat the fruit is borne from giant mango trees which if you are out in the countryside cannot fail to miss.
Try Outback Safari for an incredible journey on both sides of the Dominican Republic, from Punta Cana to Puerto Plata, where you will visit first hand fruit plantations, jungles, and see wild mango’s growing in beautiful lush vibrant surroundings, now you can’t get fresher than that!
The fruit is under a thick peel and is a brilliant yellowy orange color surrounding a large seed. The fun is getting the fruit from around the large seed! Some people peel, others slice, some will hang over a kitchen sink and chew with juice trickling down hands and chins, and others will put on rubber dive suits to avoid the inevitable juice splashing carnage while Mango Mamma has created her own technique!
