Here are some of the best pictures and photographs from this years Carnival in the Dominican Republic.  Carnival is celebrated in February all over the country and is seeped in tradition and history way back to Colonial times and commences upon the eve of lent when the people of Santo Domingo used to disguise themselves in costume to imitate the European Shrovetide! Each region in the Dominican Republic has a different costume and characters with the Diablos Cojuelos (devils) being the central players. Featuring intense colours, music and religion if you are in the Dominican Republic during carnival time then try and get out to see some of this incredible local culture for yourselves.

All Devils come out into the streets during every weekend in February, with ornate costumes decorated with small round and square mirrors, bells, ribbons, whistles etc.,.

The most popular carnival parade is in La Vega where thousands of people attend each year (you can go every Sunday in February).  Get yourself prepared for an unbelievable squash and an ear deafening volume of music though! However it is an unbelievable vibrant collage of color, music, costume, floats, dancing and harmless rivalry between local provinces. A fantastic ritual of rhythm and color and a true taste of carnival from the Dominican Republic.
