|
A great annual event, Dominican Carnival is celebrated though out the Republic, a tradition inherited from Spanish fore-fathers. People travel from far and wide to Carnival Center which is held in a small city called La Vega near the center of the Dominican Republic. Each province is represented at the Carnival, held before Easter, with each province displaying a different type of costume and story behind their elaborate dressage. For the first time, Punta Cana will be holding their own Carnival 2008 in honor of the famed designer Oscar de la Renta.
The 1st Carnival Punta Cana 2008 will be held on Saturday 8th March at 3.00pm through to 8.00pm. The Punta Cana Carnival is expecting more than 25 clubs from various provinces in the country with around 1,200 people taking part. All decked out in rich and colourful costumes, depicting plays, dances and folklore. Get yourselves over to the 1st of Noviembre Boulevard at the Punta Cana Village, which is just across the road from Punta Cana International Airport. Try and go a little early as crowds are expected and you will want to make the most of the best vantage spot. There is a U$10.00 fee per person which includes a seat on the stands.
After the parade a Merengue Concert is scheduled to start at 9.30pm! |
