Al Gore, former Vice-President fo the United States, has used the Dominican Republic as a good example of a country implementing suitable environmental policies when compared to other nations and particularly neighbouring Haiti. He stressed that the environment must be dealt with politically because it is a political problem and showed aerial photos of the border between the Dominican Republic and Haiti to highlight his opinion. The photos show the Haitian side as a desert caused by deforestation allowed by lack of government policies and how policies in this country have allowed the Dominican Republic to remain lush and green. He urges governments to deal with environmental situations with a political reaction. Gore recently won an Oscar for his documentary film "An Inconvenient Truth" that show images around the world and the effects of global warming. |

Well, this is one time we were glad we were wrong. What a glorious sunny weekend it was! Just what we needed after last week. While official forecasts are still calling for chances of rain or thunderstorms our feeling is it will threaten, may even be the odd shower, but overall it should be a lovely sunny week. Here's what those pessimistic meteorologists have to say though - Tuesday 1st - mostly sunny, 30% chance of isolated thunderstorms. High of 85F and low of 72F. Wednesday 2nd - 40% chance of scattered thunderstorms, probably late in the day. High of 85F and low of 72F. Thursday 3rd - basically the same as yesterday but the temperature is creeping up. High of 87F and low of 73F. Friday 4th - unfortunately going into the weekend they've upped the chance of rain to 60% (but it's a long way off yet and they predicted rain for last weekend too!). High of 87F and low of 73F. So get out there and soak up those rays! Have a great week everyone! |
