Weather for the Week of May 28 to June 1 E-mail

Wow! Did everybody go out and invest in a good pair of hip-waders this weekend! Apparently chance of a thunderstorm in tropical weather forecasts translates to build an ark! Not shaping up to be much different in the coming week - our apologies to all you sunworshippers out there!

Monday 28th - mostly cloudy with a chance of showers throughout the day and a high of 86F. A 60% chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening hours - you might want to head to your favourite happy hour bar a little early! Overnight low of 74F.

Tuesday 29th - probably a lot like yesterday but heating up to 89F. The late day thunderstorms continue and the low will be 74F.

Wednesday 30th - it's deja vu all over again! May see a wee bit more sun today. High of 88F and low of 72F.

Thursday 31st - scattered clouds during the day with a high of 88F. And surprise! There's a chance of thunderstorms late in the day! Didn't see that coming, did you? Overnight low of 73F.

Friday 1st - mostly cloudy with a chance of rain and a high of 88F. And do I have to even go in to the whole thunderstorm thing again? Low of 73F.

So, basically it's just a week where you want to keep the umbrella close at hand and take advantage of whatever sun comes our way! Have a great week everyone!

Will Sosa Do It This Weekend? E-mail

Will this be the weekend that Slammin' Sammy Sosa hits the 600 homerun mark? That is the question on every sports fan's mind as the Texas Rangers head to Boston this weekend to play a three game series against the Red Sox. Sammy's first Major League homerun ever was hit off Red Sox pitcher Roger Clemens back in 1989 when he was just a rookie for the Rangers.

Heading into the series Sosa is sitting at 598 homeruns and while the odds that he can hit two homeruns in three games are high the anticipation and excitement are even higher. Overall he leads the Rangers this season in both homeruns (10) and RBI's (36).

If Slammin' Sammy hits the 600 mark this weekend he will be the first Dominican and and fifth man in history to reach the career milestone.

Ups and Downs in Fuel Prices E-mail

While a little bit of relief was forthcoming in this week's fuel price announcements, diesel fuel, the fuel most used in farming and inter-urban transportation, was hit hard with a RD$3.40 per gallon increase. This brings the increases over the last two weeks to RD$5.80.

A gallon of diesel fuel will now sell for RD$111.00. Premium saw a small reduction of RD$0.70 bringing it down to RD$160.10 per gallon and regular got a slightly larger break with a decrease of RD$0.90 per gallon bringing it down to RD$149.00 per gallon.

Propane also went up this week by RD$0.19 per gallon bringing subsidized to RD$50.57 and non-subsidized to RD$72.33.
