Punta Cana Top Caribbean Golf Destination E-mail

The unequalled quantity and quality of golf courses in Punta Cana has made it the golfer's choice in the Caribbean for 2006. And with an expected 2 million arrivals at its international airport in 2007 it seems destined to continue to hold that title.

This eastern tourism zone has become a mecca for golfers. With 7 top quality courses already available, another 3 ready to start this year and 3 more in construction it's easy to see why. In fact, by 2008 golf lovers will be able to hit 10 courses on a 20 kilometre route. It will be 13 by 2009.

Many of the courses have been developed by world-renowned golfers and designers such as Jack Nicklaus, Pete B. Dye Jr., Nick Price, Tom Facio and Peope Gancedo.

The courses are in the Punta Cana, Cap Cana and Bavoro areas and there are 49 hotels with a total of 24,703 rooms available to accomodate golfers.

The Law of Incentive for the Development of Renewable Energy Sources has been passed by the Dominican Senate.

At the same time, the Senate also passed a bill making mandatory the teaching of subjects on the defense of the environment and natural resources in schools.

While in the area he plans to attend Saturday's posh inauguration ceremony for the new Cap Cana Marina.

Milestone for Dominican Shortstop E-mail

Baltimore Orioles shortstop Miguel Tejada reached a milestone 1100 consecutive games yesterday when he walked out on the diamond.

The 'Iron Man' has let nothing, including injuries stand in his way of threatening this record. He is now ranked 7th on the list of players with most consecutive games played in baseball's history. It is possible by the end of May he could advance a couple of positions on that list.

Tejada has played every game since June 2000.

A Good Reason To Always File a Flight Plan E-mail

Interviewed on the Hoy Mismo program, director of the National Drugs Control Agency (DNCD) agrees with the recommendation of the President's Advisor on Drugs, Marino Vincio Castillo (Vincho) taht suspicious aircraft violating Dominican airspace should be fired on.

He feels that measures that may be considered extreme and dangerous by some are necessary to protect the country against threats to national security such as drug trafficking and terrorism. He also feels that due to the anti-drugs summit recently held in the country that the amount of drugs entering the Dominican Republic may have dropped as much as 90% due to international cooperation.

Since the summit a coordinated effort between the United States Drug Enforcement Agency, the Coast Guard and Task Force Key West has seen helicopters, airplanes and radar working to stem the amount of drugs that enter the country. Before this it was impossible to protect against illegal flights from places such as South and Central America.
