The big city - 2006/09/13 10:02 Is it easy to get to Santo Domingo from Sosua? I am a student traveling on a budget. Any sugestions would be gladly accepted.

Re:The big city - 2006/09/13 10:07 Getting to the Capital is easy. There is a bus that makes the trip everyday. It leaves from the Caribe Tours office ten minutes by moto concho from downtown Sosua and there is a return bus leaving from Santo Domingo in the evening if you are looking for a day trip.

Re:The big city - 2006/09/18 13:42 You can either use Caribe Tours from the centre of Sosua or get yourself down to Puerto Plata and get a bus from the Metro Station. I prefer the Metro as it is cleaner and less noisy than Caribe tours, however both companies offer on time, reliable and relatively fast and safe services.
Hope this helps, if you are traveliing on a Friday or weekend you might also want to phone ahead of time and reserve your seats as during these times there are alot of commuters in and out of Santo Domingo.
Tel for the Metro station is 809 566 7126 or Caribe Tours tel is 809 221 4422.
Hope this helps, and good luck with your travels

Re:The big city - 2006/10/20 08:12 A wee tip- most of the buses are air conditioned, so bring a sweater or light jacket- we FROZE on the way there (Caribe Tours) but were more prepared on the way back! You can always wear your jeans and change as soon as you get there into something lighter.
Santo Domingo is an awesome city- The Colonial Zone is packed with history and well worth the trip there. If you are here longer than a week, one day is almost not enough. We went there in February for two nights and still missed a lot, so planning another trip when my Mom comes down for three nights at least...
If you are travelling on a budget there are fairly inexpensive motels there as well.
Good luck, and have a great time moodindigo!
