Mark Misner - You Will Be Missed - 2007/05/31 20:02
Sosua late on Monday night lost one of it's most lovable people, and that was Mark Misner from the Checkpoint Bar. Mark died under tragic circumstances and which has left everyone shocked, saddened and devasted, and no one more so than his loving wife Colleen.
Pretty much anybody that has been into Sosua will have at some time visited the Checkpoint Bar and will know Mark's smiling beautiful face, alongside Colleens.
It is very hard to sum up someones life with a few words and it is very difficult as well because Mark would be described as the heart of Sosua and his death has left a huge hole in a grieving community here.
But let us remember Mark as that huge, smiling heart and when we remember him let it not be with tears but with our smiles and fond memories of a great man that touched the lives of so many people.
Mark always had a cheery wave, a hello, a huge hug and cuddle, always had time to listen to you, and would make anyone feel very welcome in his presence.
He has made literally hundreds of friends during his time here in Sosua, from local ex pats to tourists who make a bee line straight to see him once they jump off that airplane. You see Mark was like that, a friendly, amicable, funny, intelligent, warm and compassionate human being.
It is now our turn to be compassionate and show our strength, love and support for Colleen. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Colleen and you will never be alone here, there are so many people for you to lean on, gather strength from and we will all do what ever we can for you in this most impossible time.
There will be a service for Mark on Sunday at 2.00 at Playa Chiquito in Diego's house. You can find a map and directions in The Britannia Pub, The Jolly Roger Pub and also sadly at the Checkpoint Bar too.
So Mark my friend, on behalf of everybody, we love you so much and miss you beyond words. Rest easy my good friend.
