Re:Where are the whales - 2006/12/11 09:24 The humpbacks are here from around beginning of January till end of March. Most of the whalewatching trips out of Samana start Jan. 15th..the one I recommend and have used many times is Kim Beddall from Whales Samana, she is Canadian and started the whale watching here, very knowledgeable, big boats with second storey deck so you have a good view. Her website is www.whalesamana.com If you are staying in an all-inclusive resort the reps book the trips but you'll have to go with the company they use. They only book day trips. If you go on your own there are many areas to explore in the Samana penninsula and lots of small guest houses etc to stay in. There are also all-inclusive resorts there that you might want to check out if that's your thing. Hope this info helps you out, have a good holiday!

Re:Where are the whales - 2007/01/03 20:22 Gina,
Your name really made me laugh Ginandtonic!!!!
Me and the Mrs are due to see the whales to next month and we are looking forward to it. We live here so we are just going to drive up for the day, but we have stayed in Las Terranos many times which you pass on your way up. This is a nice seaside town with a heavy european influence and there are a lot of great Swiss and French restaurants and if any one knows me here by now - they know I love me food. Point is there are a lot of little bed and breakfast places to stay there, cheap and cheerful, there is a great italian bakery for your fresh croissants and coffee in the morning.
From Las Terranos to Samana is only about 30-40 minutes and they have built a new road so you don't have to come back in land. You can hire a car or get one of the little public buses to take you over there to see the whales. It is very easy to do.
There is more to do in Las Teranos at night and to walk around in the day, it is a great place to base your trip from.
Anyhow love, keep up the Gin and Tonics and take care.
I am now going to see the Mrs about a little Free Willy myself.
OK be in touch soon,
Big Alf.

Re:Where are the whales - 2007/01/05 12:56 Gina you can pick a tour up when your arrive in samana direct if you want, like the other girl said Kim is probably the best and everyone knows her in Samana. There are plenty of English speaking people to ask around as well for some cheap rooms so dont worry -you will be too hyped after the whales to care where you sleeppppppppppppppp - oh yeah and the rum helps too
