Crossing the border to Haiti - 2006/09/27 10:34 Any advice out there as to where is the best border crossing to go from the Dominican Republic to Haiti? Is it safe at the moment? I have my own transportation so location isn't a problem of where I'll have to drive to. Thanks for any help.

Re:Crossing the border to Haiti - 2006/09/29 09:16 There are only 3 border crossings into Haiti. One near Jimani in the south, if you're heading to Port-au-Prince and the other is near Dajabon in the north, if your going to Cap-Haitien. The other is Elias Pina and can only be used by locals. Don't know the situation over there at the moment but best you ask around before you go.

Re:Crossing the border to Haiti - 2006/12/06 11:30 Hi
The border to Haiti is currently closed. The official tour operators are not any more conducting tourist trips to Haiti. They will take you as far as the border for you to get a "feel" of Haiti and that is it. You can try other border crossings but it is deemed dangerous at the moment with too much political unrest.
I would think twice about going over to Haiti at the moment and if you really want to go I would advise having a Haitian travelling companion with you in case you get into complications.

Re:Crossing the border to Haiti - 2007/01/09 21:51 You can still enter Haiti either by bus or by plane which will fly you into Port au Prince. Both are taken from Santo Domingo in the Dominican republic.
The American Embassy is still considering the Malpasse/Jimani crossing deemed dangerous. You can checkout their security alerts by looking at OSAC website.
