Barcelo Hotel Costa Larimar is a smallish (by todays new hotel building standards) run hotel located right on the beach front overlooking the Caribbean sea. It is a friendly and professionaly run hotel in a spectacularly beautiful part of the Dominican republic.
The hotel does not qualify for a mega 5 star de luxe resort, but the food is of a good standard, the rooms all have wonderful views to gaze out on(spacious and large too) and it is a great location to see parts of the Real Dominican Republic without being trapped in a huge all inclusive complex resort. The hotel is all inclusive but retains its independence and there are some great tours and trips to take while you are staying there.
A lot of people visit Barhaona for the beautiful beaches and it is famous for its larimar mines, bird watching haunts and the massive Lake Enriquillo where you can see the flamingos, iguanas and be careful - crocodiles too! We have booked a fortnights vacation at the Hotel Larimar starting mid June 2007. It was a super deal, has anyone stayed there? I have looked up barahona on your site and it loooks beautiful. We are not after a mad disco crazed 2 week vacation - we are after a chill out, read, sunbathe relax vacation. So it looks kinda good in that respect. I wondered if any one out there has stayed in the Larimar and can give us some pointers or just tell us what your vacation was like? We are very excited and cant wait to come over....
