Coming to the Dominican Republic for Christmas - 2006/11/01 19:37 Hello Real DR,
I've booked the Flamenco Hotel in Playa Dorada for Christmas, heard there is a bit of a resort there??? I have no idea of what goes on in the Caribbean at Christmas time - coming from England for the first time to the Dominican Republic.
If your admin staff or anyone could tell me what the atmosphere is like or if the resort has anything planned like big Christmas parties I will know whether to bring my tux or not!
Cheers and look forward to hearing from anyone on your team
Kel from England

Re:Coming to the Dominican Republic for Christmas - 2006/11/12 23:19 Hey Kel- you'll love it here at Christmas!
The resorts almost always have a Gala dinner of some sort- you might even get some info from their direct website (do a Google search with the name of the hotel.
Definitely bring a light pair of long pants for the gents and nice dresses for the ladies- so you can be prepared for anything.
Also a trip into Sosua is a MUST while you are there- Playa Dorada is nice but you want to see the "Real" DR don't you!
Pop in and see us at Checkpoint- we're great at offering directions and telling people where to go! (Pun intended).
Most of all, get ready for a GREAT vacation- you're gonna love it here!

Re:Coming to the Dominican Republic for Christmas - 2006/11/16 15:26 Hi Kel...the Flamenco is within the resort complex Playa Dorada where there are 16 hotels...they all have a special Xmas dinner and festivities and you'll be expected to dress up a bit...in other words, long pants, nice shirt, NO shorts, and the lady in a dress...you know, usual Xmas stuff! Just like Sosua Gal told you. It's really different and fun to spend Xmas day on the beach with a few cocktails before going to dinner. There are also restaurants within the complex that are not part of the all-inclusive if you want to try one of them...you're rep will give you all the details at your briefing...and YES you'll have a great Christmas! Cheers, The TAZ!!

Re:Coming to the Dominican Republic for Christmas - 2006/12/04 09:17 Spent last Xmas in Playa Dorada last year at and it was great...I think all the hotels do a special turkey dinner and it was different to be in the tropics - sure beats snow! Really enjoyed it, we're coming again in a couple of weeks but to the other side of the island and looking forward to it. Merry Christmas and enjoy your holiday! Dave & Sue from Regina (Canada)!

Re:Coming to the Dominican Republic for Christmas - 2006/12/04 20:42 Ho Ho HO and a bottle of rum indeed from the island with the best rum in the world. You'll love Christmas in the Caribbean, have you ever seen a real live Santa with his shades on - well you will here!!
Playa Dorada Complex already have their twinkly Christmas lights on, the Plaza is looking great and festive and all the hotels have wonderful Christmas decorations up and mega sized Christmas trees in the receptions. Christmas Carols are already piped in the restaurants and everybody is in a festive mood!
Only thing missing if you're from the UK are Christmas crackers so if you fancy doing the traditional thing during your Crissie Dinner then bring some along with you.
New Year is spectacular and all the hotels provide hats, and other novelty things to rattle, wear and shake. Check out some of the ice carvings during the New Year Gala Dinners - amazing.
Happy Christmas to you guys and enjoy yourself with Santa in the Sun!!
Best wishes
