Catamaran and Snorkelling Cruise

From personal experience we can tell you that Freestyle Catamarans is the best sailing and snorkelling experience here on the north coast of the Dominican Republic. As you set sail from the bay of Playa Dorada you'll see beautiful views of the Dominican coastline. Keep a close lookout for marine life as you sail east to the bay of Sosua. It is not uncommon to see wild dolphins, the occasional whale shark (don't worry, they are plankton eaters & not dangerous to humans) or humpback whales breaching in the distance during their breeding season which is January through February. As you cruise into bay of Sosua, your catamaran will eventually moor close to a beautiful tropical reef. If you have never been snorkelling before, worry not, the crew will show you how and join you in the water to guide you to the reef. Once in the water you'll have the chance to feed beautiful tropical fish by hand which truly is an amazing experience, so have your bread, bananas & underwater cameras ready! A buffet lunch is served once you are back on board and with the bar now open you can settle back and enjoy a refreshing ice cold drink. As the beer and rum eventually hit the spot you'll find yourself slowly become absorbed in the music so you can either choose to have fun and party, or just lie back, chill out and soak up the sun on the nets of the Catamaran at the front of the boat. The sail home is often an exhillerating one as the trade winds pick up, so do the knots as the sails fill to capacity and the catamaran surfs the waves to the sound of cool tropical ryhthms. We have taken this excursion many times and strongly recommend this tour.

Excursion Tips

• Have a good but light breakfast and take it easy the night before.
• Take and use plenty of sun-tan lotion, remember, one day tanning on a boat is like 2 days tanning on a beach
• Not a good sailor? Local Pharmacies sell sea sickness tablets such as Stugeron (as used by the British Navy) or Dramamine. Please note, this is a recommendation only and you should check with your doctor whether or not this kind of medication is suitable for you.
• Grab a couple of bannanas from the hotel buffet to feed the tropical fish with.
• Take a hat if you usually get sunburnt on your head.
• Wear your swimming costume as you board the catamaran by the front steps & you may need to wade in a little to board.
• Take a spare T-Shirt to snorkel in to protect your shoulders from the sun.
• Take your camera or buy a disposable waterproof camera as there are plenty of photo opportunities.
• Drink plenty of water to help keep you hydrated.
• Take some money just in case you want a souvenir or want to tip the crew.
• Take a SMILE, your going to have a fantastic day out!

IMPORTANT: Notice to Passengers from Bahia Principe & Rio San Juan: There is a $10 per person transportation charge that is to be paid directly to your guide on collection from your hotel/accommodation. This applies to both adults and children. There is no charge for infants (2 years and under). This is due to the additional travelling time required and this is not included in the sales price indicated for this excursion.
